Industry analysts report that consumers in the Middle East are switching to mobile computer solutions at a faster rate than Europe. It is a trend that is fuelling an excellent display of mobile systems at the forthcoming Gitex 2002 to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, October 13-17, 2002.
“The ‘have computer – will travel’ mentality is definitely going to be a dominating factor at Gitex 2002. Several exhibitors will showcase new, compact lines that have awesome capabilities and tremendous memory capacity,” said Jillian Shaw, International Project Manager for Gitex 2002.
Among the key players to feature mobile solutions will be Toshiba, a market leader that says it currently has 13 per cent of the market share in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
“We are confident our presence at Gitex this year will support us in our move to target Francophone West Africa. Equipped with two stands at the event, Toshiba will have a significant presence and we will use this event to further solidify our market share, particularly in the mobile computing segment,” said Ahmed Khalil, Middle East Sales and Marketing Manager for Toshiba’s Dubai-based operations.
“Gitex is unquestionably our single, most important marketing platform in the region. It brings together all the people who matter in the IT industry – suppliers, distributors, customers – and gives us the opportunity to present our latest technologies to key decision-makers. Visitors to our stand will experience something very special in terms of ‘anytime, anywhere’ mobile computing,” he added.
The latest Satellite 5100 notebook – the first portable computer to feature infrared remote control for all its multimedia features is one of several models to be exhibited at the show. The new portable is jam-packed with inputs, outputs and other multimedia hardware, including secure digital and smart media memory card slots that take computing to new heights.
The recently launched Toshiba Pocket PC e740 PDA, one of the only pocket-sized personal computers equipped for integrated wireless connectivity, will also be on display at the show. It is the first product of its kind on the market offering options for integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) or Bluetooth, and also provides extensive options for instant data access.
Other GITEX exhibitors to showcase mobile solutions include Acer, Al Bawardi Enterprises, al Misk Computer LLC, Al Yousuf, Aptec Gulf, AsusTek Computer Inc., Delta Business Products Inc., Direct Computer Systems, DTK Computer FZE, Emirates Computers, Fellowes, FIC Group, Fujitsu/Forefront Technologies, Giza Systems, Graphitech, HP Middle East, IBM, Key Information Technology, Kobian Pte Ltd., Microtop Computer Co. LLC, Mindware, Palm Europe Ltd., PC World, Pilot One Computer Systems, PCS International Ltd., Prostar Technology, Redington Gulf, Samsung Gulf Electronics and Union Camera Ltd.
